tyro???
As most of you who would actually read my blog know, we just moved a couple months ago. Most of our things are still out in our garage waiting for an unveiling after many months of storage - and before that, many years of top-of-the-closet/under-the-bed storage. Quite a bit of this stuff, I forgot I/we even had.
For example: (you knew I was getting to this, right?....) I found my Dictionary of Synonyms and Antonyms in a box of things I haven't really looked at since high school. I think my parents stuck it in with our stuff when they were helping us move just to get it out of their garage. Anyway, I pulled it out of the box and brought it in the house yesterday. I was flipping through it just now and came across a word I've never EVER heard before. Weird eh? I used this book like crazy in high school for reports and whatnot. The word is "tyro". Am I the only person in the universe who has neither heard nor used this word in all my ___ years?
Tyro - Syn. novice, beginner, learner, neophyte, ignoramus, dunce, duffer, bonehead (slang), numbskull (slang), - They get even nicer as we go on. - blockhead, dabbler, smatterer, lubber, bungler, fumbler, muff, lout, butterfingers, dolt, yokel, clod, booby, greenhorn, galoot.
So, thinking back, have I ever been a tyro before?? Probably a lot.
The antonyms are even better. Expert, proficient, adept, scholar, connoisseur, master, mahatma, philosopher, teacher, guide, leader....etc.
Have I ever been a non-tyro?? Well, I'll let you decide that one. I wouldn't exactly describe myself as a mahatma......

The word Mahatma conjures up images of a small bald Indian man. And rice.
